Global Carbon Council (GCC) participated in the Argentina Carbon Forum 2026, contributing to discussions on Article 6 implementation, carbon market development, and the evolving role of standards and certification systems in supporting high-integrity climate action.

Held at the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange, the forum brought together policymakers, carbon market practitioners, financial institutions, project developers, standards organizations, and climate experts to explore opportunities and challenges in advancing carbon markets across Latin America and beyond. The event provided a platform for dialogue on climate finance, carbon market infrastructure, environmental integrity, and international cooperation under the Paris Agreement.

As part of the forum, GCC contributed to two strategic panel discussions focused on the future of carbon markets and the frameworks needed to support their continued growth and credibility.

From Paris Agreement to the Market: Barriers and Opportunities under Article 6

During this session, panelists examined the practical implementation of Article 6 mechanisms and the steps required to facilitate international carbon market cooperation. Discussions focused on the importance of regulatory clarity, robust governance frameworks, and transparent accounting systems in enabling countries to participate effectively in carbon markets.

The session also explored the role of corresponding adjustments and authorization processes in supporting environmental integrity while creating opportunities to attract climate finance and investment. Participants highlighted the growing interest among countries in leveraging Article 6 mechanisms to support national climate objectives and accelerate the transition to low-carbon development pathways.

Trust Architecture: The Future of Carbon Standards and Certification

GCC also contributed to discussions on the future of carbon standards and certification systems in an increasingly interconnected carbon market landscape.

Panelists explored how standards continue to play a critical role in ensuring the quality and credibility of carbon projects while adapting to evolving regulatory requirements and emerging market frameworks. Discussions highlighted the importance of transparency, interoperability, and alignment between voluntary and compliance market mechanisms to strengthen confidence among governments, investors, and market participants.

The session further emphasized that as carbon markets mature, standards and certification frameworks must continue evolving to support emerging national and international carbon market infrastructures while maintaining environmental integrity and trust.

Strengthening Carbon Market Integrity and Cooperation

A key takeaway from the forum was the growing role of Latin America in shaping the future of global carbon markets. Discussions throughout the event highlighted the importance of collaboration among governments, standards bodies, market infrastructure providers, financial institutions, and project developers in creating effective and transparent carbon market ecosystems.

The forum also underscored the need for practical solutions that enable countries to participate in international carbon markets while ensuring robust governance, transparent accounting, and credible climate outcomes.

Through its participation, GCC engaged with stakeholders from across the region to exchange perspectives on carbon market development, Article 6 implementation, and approaches to strengthening market confidence through high-integrity standards and interoperable market infrastructure.

GCC remains committed to supporting the development of transparent and credible carbon markets through its standards, certification frameworks, and digital carbon market infrastructure solutions. By engaging with stakeholders globally, GCC continues to contribute to practical approaches that enable countries and organizations to achieve their climate objectives while advancing environmental integrity and sustainable development.
