Webinar Recap: GCC Showcases TRACE – Advancing Digital MRV for Scalable Carbon Markets

Webinar Recap: Introducing TRACE – GCC’s Digital MRV Platform

The Global Carbon Council (GCC) successfully hosted a webinar on 4 May 2026, introducing TRACE – its first approved Digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (DMRV) platform, developed by NextGreen, marking a key milestone in advancing use of DMRV in Voluntary carbon markets.

The session saw participation from over 150 stakeholders, including project developers, VVBs, and technology providers, reflecting growing interest in digital MRV solutions.

Driving the Shift to Digital MRV

GCC experts highlighted the increasing need for real-time, data-driven systems to enhance transparency, improve efficiency, and support high-integrity carbon credit issuance.

During the session, speakers emphasized that Digital MRV is enabling:

  • Near real-time monitoring and reporting of carbon projects.
  • Reduced verification timelines and transaction costs.
  • Improved data accuracy, traceability, and transparency.
  • Greater confidence across carbon market stakeholders.

The discussion also positioned DMRV within GCC’s broader GCC 2.0 digital ecosystem, including its project portal, transaction registry, and Article 6.2-aligned carbon market infrastructure.

NextGreen Showcases TRACE in Action

Representatives from NextGreen demonstrated how TRACE transforms traditional MRV processes into a fully digital, automated workflow.

The demonstration highlighted how TRACE enables:

  • Automated data ingestion directly from project-level systems.
  • AI-driven validation and anomaly detection to ensure data integrity.
  • A centralized platform for project developers and VVBs to collaborate.
  • End-to-end digital workflows, from monitoring to verification and reporting.

The live demonstration illustrated how TRACE enables continuous data tracking, replacing manual, retrospective verification processes with a real-time, transparent system.

Enabling Faster and More Efficient Carbon Markets

The session emphasized that digital MRV solutions like TRACE can significantly accelerate carbon market processes, potentially enabling credit issuance within days compared to conventional timelines.

GCC also outlined its DMRV ecosystem approach, including:

  • A structured approval framework for DMRV solution providers.
  • Integration with DMRV-enabled methodologies and programs.
  • Evolving roles for VVBs focused on data oversight and system assurance.

Key Discussion Highlights

The webinar concluded with an interactive Q&A session, where participants raised a range of practical questions on DMRV implementation, data validation, and evolving roles within the ecosystem, making it a highly engaging and insightful discussion.
