GCC 1.0 was the Global Carbon Council’s first-generation framework, launched to support voluntary carbon offsetting with a special focus on the underrepresented MENA region.
The framework offered clear project procedures, stakeholder engagement, and certification standards for greenhouse gas reduction projects. GCC 1.0 included safeguards to ensure no net harm to the environment or society and allowed project owners to apply SDG labels to demonstrate sustainable development benefits.
