Global Carbon Council and Córdoba Ministry Ink Strategic MoU at COP30 to Drive Transparent Carbon Markets

On the sidelines of COP30, the Global Carbon Council (GCC)—the Global South’s first internationally accredited carbon market program, approved under the ICAO CORSIA scheme and recognized by ICROA— and the Ministerio de Ambiente y Economía Circular de la Provincia de Córdoba (MAYEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance carbon market development, enhance climate policy frameworks, and promote sustainable development in Córdoba, Argentina.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Yousef Alhorr, Founding Chairman of GCC, and Victoria Flores, Córdoba’s Minister of Environment and Circular Economy, in the presence of international climate leaders, policymakers, and key stakeholders. The agreement highlights the importance of high-integrity carbon markets and positions Córdoba as a proactive leader in the Global South’s climate agenda.

Driving Córdoba’s Carbon Market Readiness

Through this partnership, GCC and MAYEC will focus on building technical capacity, knowledge sharing, and practical implementation of carbon market tools and standards. Key areas of collaboration include:

• Conducting workshops and training programs on GCC standards, project methodologies, registry infrastructure, and carbon market processes.
• Supporting Córdoba in adopting GCC standards and methodologies within its domestic carbon market.
• Providing technical guidance for the finalization of the Carbon Policy Framework for Article 6.2 implementation under the Paris Agreement.
• Organizing webinars, workshops, and stakeholder engagement activities to promote transparent and credible carbon market practices.
• Exploring additional initiatives to strengthen Córdoba’s climate and sustainability strategy in line with global best practices.
