The Global Carbon Council (GCC) participated in the third edition of the Ecuador Carbon Forum, held at the Hilton Colón Hotel in Quito, Ecuador. The forum brought together more than 150 participants, including government representatives, representatives from the local communities and indigenous people, project developers, validation and verification bodies (VVBs), carbon standards, and technology providers, to exchange perspectives on the evolving landscape of carbon markets in Latin America and beyond.

Representing GCC, Carla Sirolli, Manager contributed to two key panel discussions focused on international standards, integrity, and the global challenges of climate change.

Panel 1: Carbon Project Certification – International Standards, Integrity, and Convergence

Carla joined representatives from leading international carbon standards — Gold Standard (Jacobo Carrizales), Verra (Susana Vélez Haller), Cercarbono (Alex Saer), Biocarbon (Paloma Sarria), Plan Vivo (Helena Barona), and Icontec (Camilo Andrés Carvajal) — in a discussion moderated by Camilo Trujillo (IETA).

The panel explored how greater collaboration and alignment among standards can strengthen transparency, comparability, and environmental integrity across carbon markets. Carla highlighted GCC’s commitment to digital-first certification, interoperability, and data-driven systems that enhance confidence and trust in carbon project validation.

“Collaboration among carbon standards is vital to ensure the credibility and scalability of climate action,” said Carla Sirolli, “By advancing convergence and digital transparency, we can build a more harmonized and trusted ecosystem for carbon certification worldwide.”

Panel 2: Climate Change – Impacts and Challenges Faced by Ecuador and the World

Carla also joined experts from Atmosphere Alternative (Jessica Wade-Murphi), Asociación Ecuatoriana de Carbono (Marcelo Salame), and Plan Vivo (Helena Barona) to discuss national and global challenges in addressing climate change and achieving mitigation goals.

She underscored the importance of capacity-building, transparent governance, and digital market infrastructure in supporting developing countries to achieve measurable, high-integrity climate outcomes.

Strengthening Regional Readiness Through Collaboration

GCC’s participation in the Ecuador Carbon Forum reaffirms its commitment to promoting integrity, transparency, and innovation in carbon markets across the Global South. Through partnerships and regional engagement, GCC continues to support institutional readiness for Article 6 implementation and to drive investment into sustainable, high-impact mitigation activities.
