To support the readiness of stakeholders in Lao PDR for active participation in international carbon markets, the Global Carbon Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), held a one-day capacity-building workshop in Vientiane on 14 July 2025. The session focused on the GCC Program, its certification standards, and its role in advancing Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.


To support the readiness of stakeholders in Lao PDR for active participation in international carbon markets, the Global Carbon Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), held a one-day capacity-building workshop in Vientiane on 14 July 2025. The session focused on the GCC Program, its certification standards, and its role in advancing Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
The workshop featured in-depth sessions by GCC experts 🎙, covering project development, carbon credit issuance, and program-specific methodologies:
- Kishor Rajhansa, our COO, demonstrated GCC’s interoperable and integrated carbon market and national registry infrastructure (CMI) to support countries to accelerate implementation of Article 6.2.
- Hemant Nandanpawar, Sr. Director, Climate Finance & Stakeholder Management, presented an overview of the GCC Program, its Approved Carbon Credits, ARECs, certification labels, and the operationalization of Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement through GCC projects.
- Ashok K. Chandhel, Sr. Manager, Stakeholder Management, provided an overview of the GCC project development process and certification cycle, along with the general requirements for developing a project under the GCC Program.
- Joseph Prakash, Director, Operations, explained the requirements for issuing CORSIA and Article 6.2-eligible credits under the GCC framework. He also discussed Article 6 authorization, and corresponding adjustments, the roles of host and buyer countries, and GCC’s labelling procedures.
- Subhendu Biswas, Director, Climate Action & Regulations, discussed the requirements of GCC’s CCS methodology for project activities involving the capture, transport, and geological storage of carbon dioxide.
- Dr. Wojciech Galinski, Director & Sue Kyoung Lee, Associate Director, NbS Program explained the key requirements of the GCC NbS Program, approved NbS tools and related methodologies. They also explained the requirement on the project start dates, crediting periods, permanence, and the NR/NR+ certification labels that differentiate GCC’s NbS Program.
💬 The workshop concluded with an open Q&A, encouraging active engagement and discussion from participants across both the public and private sectors.
